First film developed at home!

Img036 Img017
1. Looking through my motel room in Wangaratta. I’m a bit obsessed with taking photos looking through windows at the moment. There is more to come! 2. An accidental double exposure. Must experiment more with double exposures, they are very interesting.

1. My brother Jono.  2. The infamous Trav.

Img029 Img028
1. A sunset somewhere! 2. A pretty rose bush, somewhere too! Can’t remember where they were taken.

1. Me and Step at her sister’s birthday party at Cookies Rooftop Bar (Swantston St, Melbourne).
2. My cute little Charlie looking as cute as ever!

The above photos are from my first roll of film I developed at home. Over my holidays I bought all the chemicals and bits n pieces needed. It was actually pretty easy! This was a 400iso slide film, can’t remember which brand, cross processed in C41 chemicals. I taught myself from the following YouTube video…

More Cross Processed Photos

AROUND MELBOURNE…

1. Jono, my little bro, waiting for me after work, Queen’s Lane. 2. Near my Coin Laundry, just off Rathdowne Street. 3. Bourke Street Mall… pretty dark and underexposed, but I kinda like the pattern from the roof. 4. Audrey taking a nap.

FROM MY RECENT TRIP TO WANGARATTA…

1. V-Line train at Southern Cross railway station. 2. Looking out the window from the train.

1. Got off the train at Seymore, have to transfer to Coach for the rest of the journey to ‘Wang’. I thought this Granny was cute, finishing off her ice cream before she hoped on. 2. For those who don’t want to walk across the road, from the train station to the coaches, there is a little golf buggy like service.

1. Looking out the window of the coach in Seymore. 2. Wangaratta’s main street.

1. Wangaratta Art Gallery, this is where I went for the EXIT 09 Graduate Exhibition. 2. As the sign says, the Wangaratta Mosonic Centre. I like this old building.

Untitled-14-web Untitled-13-web
1. Luke and me. Luke and I went to school together. He now teaches at Wangaratta TAFE. 2. Me and Don. Don was one of my teachers.

Untitled-8-crop-web Untitled-9-crop-web
1. Pretty roses. The white rectangle is actually a sticker. The people who developed my film put it over a negative :( 2. The motel room I stayed the night it.

Overall these images are very green and or blue and rather underexposed! But, it’s pretty hard to adjust the Dian Mini as it only has two appeture settings… ’sunny’ or ‘cloudy’. As my brother said, Slide Film is very sensitive to exposure. Guess I just have to learn whether the light around me would work well or not when using slide film!

Cross Processed Slide Film with Diana Mini

Untitled-1-crop-web Untitled-2-crop-web
Looking at Melbourne’s Yarra River one stormy day on my way home from work.

The same day, at my Tram Stop near home. Love this shade of blue!

Untitled-4V2-web Untitled-4-crop-web
Also the same day at my Tram Stop, Nicholson Street, looking at the other side. Got a little bit of double exposure in the first image. Might have to experiment with some more double exposure.

Metal statue of a man in Swanston Street, corner of Bourke. Someone ‘popped’ a beanie and a flower reef on him! / My brother taking a photo of me taking a photo of him on the train one day.

I have some more, but gotta get going now, shall post soon :)

First BLACK & WHITE Lomo photos

Last weekend was a rarity… the sun was out in Melbourne! It inspired/motivated me to go into the city and take some snap-shots of some of the things I love about Melbourne. I can’t believe I have lived here for over 3 years and these are the first images I have! I really like black and white for photos, must-take-more!

70400002.  .70400004.  .70400008

1. Mannequin at Forever new in Bourke St. 2. Looking into Bourke St Mall. 3. Mannequin in Jeans West (or Just Jeans, always get confused there!) window at Queen Victoria Building.

70400012.  .70400001.  .70400014

1. Love these ‘old-skool’ Women’s and Men’s toilets in Colins St. Seriously, would you go down there? Hmm… light bulb… on my next photography mission list! 2. Melbourne Town Hall in Swanston Street. 3. The iconic Flinder’s Street Station.

70400025.  .70400021.  .70400020

1. The Windsor on Spring Street. Stayed there once, SUCH a gorgeous building outside and in. 2. Audrey Hepburn decal on one window at Melbourne Town Hall. Someone stuck ‘googley’ eyes on her… I thought this was so funny! I was surprised these sticker eyes were not removed, and after about 3 weeks I thought I better get a photo before they take them down (maybe Melbourne City Council thought it was cool too!). Anyway, on Monday I go past on the tram and lo and behold, they googley eyes are gone! Whoo… SO glad I got the photo! 3. Some graffitied bins in Hosier Lane, off Flinders Street.

70400019.  .70400018.  .70400017

1. Street art in Hosier Lane (for you who don’t know, it’s Melbourn’s most popular Graff lane.) 2. Nior’s work in Hosier Lane. 3. Two years ago, Fafi was here for the Curvy book launch. This is what she did in Hosier Lane :) (there is a little bit of text near her that some one has written with a marker and it says something like … ‘Hosier Princess’, well to that effect anyway).

Bits ‘n’ Pieces

Well, no new work to share yet, so thought I’d share a few photos I meant to post ages ago and thought I’d share a few random bits ‘n’ pieces….

P071009_22.34 P210609_23.11[01]

A drawing I’m working on at the moment and Audrey doing a big stretch. This photo makes me giggle!

P290709_21.23 P280909_14.31

Another photo from Flaming Lips, you can see all the confetti they let go and you can see how far away we were :( but we did get the tickets at the last moment and my new Diana Mini tee I got made, hehe, yes I’m a ‘lomo’ geek!

P280709_22.38 P270709_12.09

Charlie and Audrey ‘takin it easy’ while I draw and a sneak peak of a commissioned illustration project I can’t wait to share with you. Will probably be able to share in December :)

CashRegister

Vintage cash register in my day job’s Bosses office. Took this and the following images with my new little Diana Mini camera and had the film cross processed. I scanned the film and boosted up the contrast a little bit and the saturation too.

SwanstonStreetHorses

Some of the horses that take you for rides in Swanston St, Melbourne.

GPO-Building

GPO building, Melbourne too.

Geraniums

My Geraniums. Got this cutting from the front of Rathdown Cellars (thank you!) hehe.

China-Town

Looking at the entrance of China Town from Swantston Street.

And that’s it for now. Bed time now :)

More Lomo Photos

Me'n'Charlie TakeTwo020

Left: Me and Charlie. Right: Jay (who is in Vietnam right now).

TakeTwo025

Scene from a bar in Melbourne, can’t remember its name, but we were sitting out side on a little balcony and this is out view. Think there is about 7 exposures here.

Disquis TakeTwo028

Left: Looking up at  out door heaters at the same bar. Right: Fairy lights and the same bar.

My next lot of films to be developed are one back and white roll and one roll I’m having cross processed in slide chemicals. Looking forward to seeing them.

First Photos From Diana Mini Camera

Here are the images that actually worked, from my first two rolls of film. Most of them were either over / under exposed. I used the ‘B’ setting (leaves the shutter open for the length of time your finger is on the button) often, so my judgment of exposure time needs some fine tuning! They turned out okay for my first go I think. Much to learn and lots of room for improvement!  I used Fuji Superior Extra 400 speed film and have had them developed normally.

Baloons

Balloons in our back window. Trav (Maggie’s boyfriend) set them up for her birthday. So sweet!

CandleAndPlant

Maggie’s flowers from her birthday.

Charlie

Charlie Girl!

Charlie2

Charlie Girl… AGAIN! There will be lots of her hehe.

OutBedroomWindow

Looking out my bedroom window.

Scarlett'sShow

At the exhibition ‘Flirt” by Kate Lightfoot aka Scarlett. Not sure exactly what is going on here, but it looks interesting I think. Experimented here with the film wound forward a little and exposed three times.

ToiletMan

Toilet man… not explaining this one haha, the story is too long!

ViewFromOffice

The view from my office on St Kilda Road.

TramStop

My tram stop, number 96, looking towards the city. Had the focus on the wrong setting! Durr!

TramStop2

My tram stop again. And again, focus sent on wrong setting!

So, I look forward to taking more photos, it’s lots of fun :)
