Just before Christmas, Madeleine Boyd asked me to create an illustration for the cover of her new magazine, MECCA. The theme for the issue was ‘nostalgia’ so I was pretty excited about that too! When I got back to work (for 2010), I was happy to find my posted copy waiting for me! They did a little feature too :)

Madeleine and her team put together this magazine for her dissertation for her Masters in Fashion Journalism (London College of Fashion), creating a Melbourne-based fashion magazine that explores fashion, art and design.

Best wishes to everyone for 2010! This year I’m focusing on being organized and managing my time better. I started an oil painting  in my holidays, still have a long way to go with it :)

Sampling (Sneak Peak)

Bec Winnel

Without giving too much away, here is a little sneak peak at the recent samples my client received from their clothing manufacturer. The above are two colour proofs printed on white fabric. You can see the first one is a little yellow in tone, and the second is much closer to the original illustration. Remember ages ago I gave a little sneak peak and you guys gave me a ’stab in the dark’ of what you thought it might be? No? Have a look here. You can probably tell what it is now! Watch this space, I’ll be posting the finished product soon :) Cant wait!

Commissioned Illustration

VBV6700V2Chanel600V2CokeV2Pirelli-V2

You might remember, a little while ago, I shared a sneak peak of a commissioned job I was working on… thought I would share the final illustrations :) All I can really share is that the work was for a large company in the UK, and the illustrations were for an idea they pitched. I worked with the company to create the above concepts, a teenage girl who is a little ‘out of this world’. You might notice in some images she has an ‘alien’ ear. We then placed the character is several famous poses (Chanel ad, VB dress, Diet Coke ad and Pirelle calendar) to create a sense of her being real and here, and able to turn her hand to anything. Was lots of work, my first job throught Illustration Ltd, but very fun and rewarding!

First ‘Agent’ Commissioned Illustrations

illustrationOne.  .IllustrationTwo

Here is a little sneak peak of my first commissioned illustrations, through my new ‘agent’,  Illustration Ltd. These drawings are a lot ’stronger/bolder’ that what I’m used to drawing… has been a challenging yet rewarding learning experience, trying something a little new, that I would probably have not done otherwise if not commissioned.

I can’t show or tell much yet.  I’ve been working on these illustrations all Friday night, all weekend and tonight… my fingers are a bit sore, my pencils very short, and my brain hurts! Each illustration is only small, about half an A4 page and each has taken around 15-20 hours each! I’m a slooooow drawer!

Working full time at my day job, and keeping this illustration ‘gig’ going is hard work, I work, draw, sleep… but all worth it.

I’ve been a little behind with getting prints out, and I apologies greatly for this, but if you ordered one, you will find a little surprise in your package to say sorry and thank you.

Bed time now… sleep tight, sweet dreams.
